If it’s anything like farm equipment, the wiring jobs of aged mules is nothing short of horrendous. I recall one unit I’ve worked with that was about two or three years old; it was easier to just replace the entire wiring harness than try to repair what was there.

The MCAS system is supposed to support the pilots when they are flying the jet. MCAS is not active when the plane autopilot (AP) is active.

There are weird reports on odd behaviors once the flaps are retracted and the MAX is put into A/P. Sudden descents. There’s more to this story than MCAS.
