Yes.. exactly what the Almightywhacko said. Trains don't stop on a dime and those commuter trains are, depending on the section of track they are on, going upwards of 70 Mph. So YES, I would expect 5000 tons of train to keep going for a bit, even if they hit the brakes as hard as they could.

When Harryhausen died the entire world lost an amazing asset. He defined several generations of film and inspired unknown numbers of writers, film makers and special effects artists.
