Hey there! Shoot me an email, would love to chat about this.
My friend works at the Corvette plant and told me they have shut down the plant for several weeks. He has heard they are tooling up to produce a Cadillac XLR. This would make sense after reading this article. Especially from a branding standpoint - Cadillac would be the badge to put on a GM halo car & Corvette lovers…
F1 Twizy has to be one of the most adorable things ever...we need a Twizy cup series!!!!
The break-in procedure for Hawk HPS pads is sort of like that. You’re supposed to drive (forwards) up to 45mph and slam on the brakes. Repeat that a couple times, and the brakes will be smoking. Let them cool, and you’re all set.
This is kind of how you reset the auto-adjuster mechanism on drum brakes, but otherwise “lolwut.”
This is not a falsehood. On old drum brake cars you would adjust the brake shoes by throwing it in reverse and stopping hard. Old car of mine would seize up a brake cylinder. Throw it in reverse, hit brakes, good to go.
Best part, the accident was caused by one of the trucks swerving to avoid a bicyclist on one of those stupid bikes with the giant front wheel and tiny rear wheel.
The only thing better would have been a three-truck collision, the other two containing jacks and those round hoops that you pushed along with a stick in 1893.
I am this guy except I have an Insight and drink and smoke regularly and, at times, recklessly.
And for what it’s worth, I’ve talked to many Uber drivers in LA and Phoenix that have been making a pretty decent living by doing it full-time. Some cities have it better than others due to local regulations. And guess what, the full-timers have almost never had brand new cars, because they understand that it would be…
Damn... This is too relatable. Although, I do enjoy some of my job, travel a decent amount, and drink often enough.
Yeah, riding the depreciation curve takes a huge bite out of your earnings. I agree that they should find something used, clean, and reliable. Leasing new to drive for hire is a sucker’s bet.
It’s a relatively low-effort job with perceived start-up “gig economy disruptor” glamour. I’m sure a lot of people were enticed and thought they could make it full-time.
I agree. It was never intended to be a full time job nor does it need to be. If someone wants to scrap by on uber alone that’s their choice but don’t expect me to feel bad.
I feel like a lot of these full-time drivers are missing the point of Uber. It was originally conceived as a way to make some extra cash on top of a regular job, not to replace a full-time job entirely. Also, buying/leasing a new car just to drive for Uber isn’t exactly a wise choice. What I tell people is to find out…
Buddy of mine in high school did this with his 2000 Ranger. He was trying to pop it into neutral coasting down a hill at 40mph, but overshot. I guess he didn’t realize that you could just nudge the column shifter up into neutral without pulling it back. The rear axle locked fire 20 feet and he slammed it down into…
I would NOT recommend this in a manual car. At least, not MY car. With no synchro for reverse, my car makes an absolutely atrocious sound if you are moving forward at all and shift into reverse.
