I suspect that the “gauge” in question is a piece of PVC pipe duct-taped to the hood. If the duct tape holds, it’s “acceptable”. If not, then you have bigger problems.
I’m guessing you don’t understand how much power the NHTSA has over manufacturers. If it’s not safe (by their standards), then it’s not getting sold.

I’m a little bit bothered by the fact that it’ll take them over a year to edit the video somewhat and remove a few audio streams (or tracks, or whatever the industry term is) just so they can rerelease it. Not that I won’t watch it.
