I think the key difference is the acknowledgement that some people are weighing political risk and potential as a positive choice, rather than siding with the devil they fear least.

I don’t think this jives with the reality of being a CONCACAF country. There’s no future where the USMNT is entirely based in Europe, and it doesn’t have to be. In fact, I don’t think that’s the way to have a cohesive national team.

There’s also a pertinent point to be made that culture, and especially gender relations and dating, have changed quite significantly in the last 30-40 years. It’s possible your parents (and mine) didn’t know anyone over 25 who had never been married whereas now single people outnumber married people.
