1. He may be a college student, but I see no indication that he's particularly bright.
Well, if super hero comics have taught us anything, it is that even the most idiotic premise can be put to use for quality story telling. This looks like an extremely idiotic premise, so I guess we're halfway there.
This has been a glaringly obvious problem for more than fifty years. I don't know if it is finally reaching public awareness or if this story will go down the memory hole the way it has since before I was born.
It can be an exclusionary attitude, but I don't think that applies to most of what people are talking about here.
A character from a cheesy ass network TV show that some of us were careless enough to get sucked into. I can't wait for the next episode, and this makes me feel unclean. So don't ask, just avert your eyes and run!

But I thought this was that one special place where I could run my mouth indefinitely without ever having my beliefs challenged! The internet today sucks! It used to be about the free flow of information that I was comfortable with, but these days I keep running into people who disagree with me! Somebody send them…

I suspect that we can not separate sapience from biology. All these discussions of computer AI come back to the idea of modeling the neural network of the brain, but a brain is not just a network, it is a network of living cells. Every living cell has a tiny piece of sapience: it knows that it is alive and it wants…
I remember when the network was launched. They proclaimed that they would be an alternative to the socialist propaganda of the other private-for-profit-corporation-owned news networks. They said, again and again and with a perfectly straight face "We Have No Bias!" They were like a cartoon parody of a propaganda…

Somehow, among the poorly educated, propaganda addled masses of America, acknowledging the existence of this catastrophe is "controversial."
Sorry if it makes you uncomfortable being reminded that scientifically literate people tend not to share your politics, but has it ever occurred to you to wonder why that is?
These are all just variations on the God question, and not in a particularly productive way. It's just a list of small questions and non questions that turn into big question if you believe in transcendental, supernatural forces, acting on us and controlling us with conscious intent from outside the known space time…
Evidence for the existence of God? Sure! There are things about the Universe that we just don't understand; therefore: God.
And if you thought that evidence could stand up to rational scrutiny, I have to imagine you would name it here, instead of just alluding to it.
Now, a water sample from Europa could likely do us some real harm.
That is one thing I'm not too worried about. Earth is a larger planet with a much greater density of diverse life forms in mutual competition for a long time.
Sometimes, a philosophy major is just another shallow thinker with a degree in deep thoughts. Here are some stray observations:
I have been predicting for years that we will discover life on Mars just in time to watch it be wiped out by invasive species from Earth.
