A lot of 20th century sci-fi just wasn’t that imaginative. Klingons were just white people with fancy eyebrows (and, occasionally, brown shoe polish on their faces.) Romulans were just Vulcans with v-shaped bangs, and Vulcans were just normal humans with pointy ears and straight bangs. Klaatu was just a white dude,

I like the extra-special irony of the box labeled “ivory snow” amidst a crowd of blindingly white people.

Since I last saw an episode of The Boys, I’ve watched Banshee through twice. Man, how good was Banshee?

This is why people want tort reform. When I was sued for malpractice, I was served one day short of the statute of limitations expiring and they still didn’t have an Affidavit of Merit, which is a statement from a doc in the same profession saying something was done wrong. So I asked my lawyer why it wasn’t dismissed

Colbert loves LOTR and brings it up as a bit in his show. There are plenty of people who love Star Trek as a comforting show.

Did you just admit that you don't change your underwear after working out?

For those who present as women, we ask that you cover your nipples.”

Ugh.

Some context for those of you not from Colorado, who don’t know the circumstances of what happened beyond what you’re reading in this article.

Her stunt double isn’t the one being threatened.

A fan watches the ‘review’ and can see all the spectacular visuals and watch the best scenes without having to go out and pay for a boxset. “Well, pretty much got the gist of it now. Why pay $10 buying the boxset when I’ve seen the best it has to offer.

Siskel and Ebert didn’t go into a movie theatre, film the movie on a camera then put it on their show. The movie studio gave them the clips, and had a say on what clips could and couldn’t be shown.

If this guy’s company (and it is a company, with full time employees as he talks about in the video)  was just offering up reviews over publicity stills like sites like iO9 and such have to do, then they’d certainly have an argument that it’s ‘unfair’. But even looking over the AoT link in the article, it’s not what

The second encore was “Dead Man’s Party” with Oingo Boingo’s Steve Bartek on guitar, was pretty good.

he can fiddle!

For real? Damn, that’s depressing. tbh, I’m more a fan of his film scores than of Boingo, but still. Getting old sucks.

Those numbers are a bit misleading. Chappelle signed a deal way back in 2016 to release six specials and be paid $20 million each for them plus production expenses. So the budget for this was basically set in stone five years ago. That payout was always going to be “more than Chappelle was worth” in straight profit

Her demographics don’t matter, and her firing isn’t anti-free speech.

Even 20-25 years ago it could have worked, I think it’s a real Gen X kind of concept that’s probably been done by them two dozen times already. But I feel like the world has moved past stuff about middle class white guys who have perfectly fine jobs making decent money but are moping because they didn’t get to be rock

Smoothing algorithms tend to add frames to produce linear movement. It can look unnatural because the majority of motion in nature is more dynamic due to physics. When things move, they speed up and slow down at different times. Animators replicate this by unevenly spacing the frames.

Because my initial thought was “oh, people might be interested to know that...” - but my second thought was “no, people are never interested, people just want a flamewar about ‘minimising the scientific contribution of POC’, and I don’t have the energy to do that right now.”
