Knowing very little about the original IP, the music seems great but...

If “American way” is not about a nation, then why does it need “American” in it? If it’s about being “better than everything that came before” (ie. The past), then why is “a better tomorrow” not acceptable?

Those numbers are a bit misleading. Chappelle signed a deal way back in 2016 to release six specials and be paid $20 million each for them plus production expenses. So the budget for this was basically set in stone five years ago. That payout was always going to be “more than Chappelle was worth” in straight profit

Her demographics don’t matter, and her firing isn’t anti-free speech.

Even 20-25 years ago it could have worked, I think it’s a real Gen X kind of concept that’s probably been done by them two dozen times already. But I feel like the world has moved past stuff about middle class white guys who have perfectly fine jobs making decent money but are moping because they didn’t get to be rock

  • On that note, Carol cut that horse’s throat for a reason, right? That I just missed? …right?

Smoothing algorithms tend to add frames to produce linear movement. It can look unnatural because the majority of motion in nature is more dynamic due to physics. When things move, they speed up and slow down at different times. Animators replicate this by unevenly spacing the frames.

Because my initial thought was “oh, people might be interested to know that...” - but my second thought was “no, people are never interested, people just want a flamewar about ‘minimising the scientific contribution of POC’, and I don’t have the energy to do that right now.”

Not sure on the timeline with variolation there. For a start, Mather didn’t ignore Onesimus - he researched the matter, consulted with other slaves, read articles on the topic, was convinced, and then led the drive to combat the 1721 smallpox epidemic with variolation - his campaign, and the provable results that came

So if I’m reading this correctly, the problem is that Marvel temporarily replaced the promotional Twitter account avatar of a character whose show dropped several months ago with a different character whose show dropped last night?

Personally, I’m sick of ads playing on YouTube before movie trailers. Fuckers, you’re making me watch an ad so that I can watch an ad!

to be this stunningly stupid is an achievement, in a way

Yes. Yes we are.

This looks amazing. Cant wait to check it out. Though it shows how fucked up things as that it seemingly took a non-American to help get this quintessentially American story made. Either way, I’m glad we get to watch it.

I think I was being facetious, but saying “negative encounter with a shark” is not any more likely to prevent commercial fishing bycatch than “shark attack” is to promote it.

Yeah, a "negative encounter with a shark" could really mean anything. Like the shark cut you off in traffic, made fun of your wetsuit, or you just plain didn't like seeing it. It's a pretty meaningless phrase because it doesn't convey any real useful information.

The thing with him and his daughter was about as believable as wallpaper.

AFAIC, it’s a sequel in the same way James Bond movies (pre-Casino Royale, cuz obvs) are sequels. Sequels that use the same cast as the first without directly referencing the first are made all the time. WB knows how critically maligned the first Suicide Squad is so it makes sense they don’t want to acknowledge that it

In comics, we call it a new run. As in “Have you read James Gunn’s run on Suicide Squad?”

Someone said it on here previously, but: the prequel trilogy were a great story told poorly, the sequel trilogy was a poor story told well. The acting, cinematography, editing, dialogue (at least in the micro terms of how actual people actually talk to each other) and overall lack of pretense are a lot better in these
