I first read this during Dubya’s 8 years. I was just a high schooler, but even then I felt sure this would be where we were headed. If you’re more worried about climate change and nuclear annihilation, I recommend Atwood’s weird but engrossing Oryx and Crake instead.

This is fascinating. I wish I could do a compare-contrast of appointments (or lack-there-of) with other presidencies. Regardless, thanks for posting it. It’ll be good to stay updated.

I appreciated how many older and elderly women approached me and my boyfriend to ask why we were marching. Great dialogue shared!

The woman in yellow is the perfect combination of Katherine Hepburn a la Out of Africa and Iris Apfel.

My cat’s ears pulled back as soon as it played.

Y’all just need to read this as if Stefon is reporting.

Really? on the serial killer glasses? Biebs is totally channeling Jeffrey Dahmer.

Of MC’s, I prefer the Hammer. Preach, indeed. ;)

Having worked in several male-dominated jobs, I know the value of two things— a thick skin and a sense of humor. Now, I do not take the “I’m every woman” approach, and for that reason, maybe I’m less sensitive, but honestly, this woman got more apologies from coworkers for one oblique reference than I’ve ever received

This would be far more effective if the protesters were outside the judge’s house. Brock Turner raping again is less likely than that of Judge Persky’s passing judgement again. Yes, he’s been moved to civil cases rather than criminal cases at his own request, but as he has proven himself incapable of providing the

So, more important question— are the children theirs? Because if not, this story is going to get a whole lot more insane before it’s over.

I’m reading Just Mercy right now and the author, Bryan Stevenson, points this out quite poignantly again and again. Check it out if you haven’t already.

Mad props for use of “bloviating”.

As I understand it, this is a very American approach. I was taught early on that, in other parts of the world, women and children are seen as the least worthy and most disposable, so what “we” as Americans see as tragic, other cultures do not.

What century is it that a group of school children can still collectively find a rope swing?! Oh, wait, Texas? Never mind...

Have you watched 11.22.63 on Hulu? You definitely should if this is where your mind is at right now. A little bit escapism/ vague sci-fi, a little bit history lesson, and a whole lot of “what if” speculation afterwards.

Nope. Not the same. Homegirl has done a fine job of bashing Obama on her campaign trail if you haven’t noticed.

And if you think about the infinitesimal number of times someone has said, “he’s a man, he knows what he’s doing” and seen that NOT be true, there’s no way that reversing it to, “she’s a woman, so she must be pro-___” whatever is gonna be accurate. smh.

Anyone else notice the manspreading Justice Thomas and Scalia have going on as compared to Justices Roberts and Kennedy? Could it be that the more males manspread the more likely they are to identify as increasingly Republican?
