So you're saying that a possible argument for a closed system is so that people don't customize their home screens exactly the way they want it, even if it's ugly? Apple wouldn't even let you change your home screen background until iOS 4, and only if you had a 3GS or later!

Yeah, it doesn't quite happen that way around here. The manager doesn't really expect people to work 12 hour days, but you still have to keep up with those who do (who are taking on extra projects, etc etc). If you have nothing to do, you're expected to find extra credit to fill in those hours.

I'll stop comparing myself to other people when my manager stops comparing me to other people. We work on a peer-to-peer evaluation setup here, so while my coworkers are working on 5 projects with 12-14 hour days, my own "I work 8 hour days because I'm exhausted and I don't get paid overtime" mentality might cost me…
