The alternative is your family survives. The problem with your solution is that it REQUIRES that people die. As long as that’s only libertarians, I’m fine with that. It’s the outcome they wanted. No thanks, willing serf. Regulation written by trained, experienced professionals who do great research has no death…
They do that shit all the time. I have a friend whose ex beat her (like, I took her to the ER beat her) because she said he should take his kids to see their mother (who lives in a nursing home because she suffered catastrophic injuries in a car accident) more often. He wasn’t charged because she “provoked” him.
Your Mom sounds awful but I can’t see how that supports your “don’t tell any woman she’s a bad mother” statement. If a stranger saw her hurting you and called her a bad mother...would they be wrong?
Note that the article presents “his side of the story.” This was more than a polite conversation with one insulting remark, guaranteed.

You joke, but the Libertarian (an aspect of conservatism) view holds just this way. They desire no product safety regulation. They desire that the court system be the only recourse for damages... Because, you know, everybody has deep pockets.
Why are attorney’s are always seen as greedy? Is it only okay for companies like Goodyear to be greedy?
if you’re selling a product or providing a service that presents a danger to others, then yeah, regulate that shit in a transparent and fair matter
Not “can be”. IS.
Looks like the root issue is allowing these tires, rated only for 65mph, to be installed on vehicles that WILL be driven at speeds higher than that unless the vehicle is electronically limited.... which it most likely wasn’t.
Counterpoint:
Come now! This is just the free market working as intended! Indeed, with less regulations, the market would have corrected itself even faster, because dead and crippled people can’t buy your products!
Don’t forget to be sad that courts give them protective orders that let them hide their misconduct from the public and regulators, and that therefore they can keep engaging in the same misconduct in case after case after case and nobody can do anything about it for years or decades.
Reread the article. Goodyear directly sold the tires to RV manufacturers for use on RVs.
That’s why I wasn’t so specific, it’s everywhere, not just in car manufacturing.
It makes me sad that we have to trust our lives to manufacturers who value profits over the lives of the people using their products.
A bit scary that all the RV manufacturers/dealers/service companies were installing a tire that was speed rated to be roughly equal to speed limits. When reading the article I was expecting to see falsely listed speed rating #’s, but apparently that wasn’t the case. Isn’t it common practice to install tires that are…
I was thinking that too. I can’t imagine the what-if scenarios playing in her parents’ heads. Just awful.
Idk why, but missing that call seems like the worst part. That feeling of “what if I would have answered?” is going to haunt her forever.
