well 480i and 1080i are interlaced, so its 30 frames, ever other line that alternates showing the next frames. Whereas p, for progressive is one full swipe at 60fps. You can pretty much tell whenever anything is in interlaced mode from VHS to modern times.. just look for the weird blurry horizontal lines during motion.

Whats worse during that time period is you were also choosing between 720p 60fps or 1080i 30fps, you couldnt get the best of both worlds 1080p until a few years later.
