Seems more like indicators that Nintendo is even more anti-social than the other platforms. Other interpretations would be afraid of modern society, scared of taking risks, or being horribly out of date when it comes to how people interact.

Well a few people have done that. Notch resisted the urge when Youtube offered him all the money being made off Minecraft and instead let people monetize off it without a peep or penny between them and Mojang. Several other indie devs have done the same thing.
