It seems like there is a large gap between not shutting up about a micro-agression and calling for someones head over it like they went hardcore into actually trying to offend.

Prevent? We don't. These things are all elements that can make a story more interesting and create believable conflict between characters. Reduce their use as the baseline 'must have because that's how it is' We make sure when a game doesn't do these things we reward the developers for expanding their toolbox.

Difficult to say from that video what really the system will entail. Until we get a ton of more details I doubt it will do much to stem people who are bringing up Wildstars plot system as a reason to defect. There is more to the Wildstar housing than just having a house afterall.
