Thankfully, the conventional wisdom is that #9 is so likely to lead to #1 that no one would be crazy enough to start #9. But if that's the case, why wouldn't we start #9 because everyone thinks that would still be preferable to #1? Until it turns out everyone's right and #9 leads straight to #1 anyway.

All of the plot craziness makes perfect sense when you realize that TDKR is actually a wacky silver age story that Nolan tricked today's raised-on-Miller "mature" Batman fans into liking anyway. The man's a genius.
