This.
The culture here is so vastly different from the culture there—it's unimaginable.
In the Indian subcontinent, women are routinely married off as children, or against their will to men they've never met before. Spousal rape isn't considered rape. Sex is something that happens to them. Not something they participate in. Women in public places are considered 'forward'. Any woman who goes out in public…
What?! You didn't notice how uncomfortable the women (who actually noticed the ogling going on) were? Seriously?
She's also facing charges for underpaying, no? Visa fraud, human trafficking and contravening labor laws?
Very. As there's more and more discussion on it, in the media as well as social media, she's fairly well to do (she owns at least ten properties, housing and such, and yes, she was involved in the Adarsh scandal), and her relatives seem to include a lot of senior govt officers. That counts for a hella lot of influence…
This is not about caste in the way you are claiming. This is more about privilege—of social standing. The Indian 'gentry' is in uproar not because Khobragade is Dalit, but in spite of it. That's a very interesting thing.
Do you only read people's comments to strengthen your own worldview?
Okay, I just came back, and that was some awesome fucking shit!
"Even Shakespeare made dirty jokes. "
Holy baby potatoes! Maybe I should watch that movie after all?
Then don't make the blanket assertion that association of class/caste is dumb. It's not. In this case, the class/caste issue doesn't correlate in the usual ways. Making a blanket statement like that just makes you sound like you're trying to deny something; just as asserting that this is all about caste was the OP…
I totally disagree with what Ms. Goddess Arbiter wrote.
Where is this from?
I've not been following the case closely because in reality it's an international nonissue that will die down the next time India has to rely on us to bomb a militant camp in Pakistan or wants American technology for a nuclear reactor.
Do you even remember your initial statement? You posited CASTE as the only actor in the uproar in support of Khobragade in India. You didn't bring up class and note how class is linked to caste in India. You noted caste. Nothing else. Then when people started pointing out why that doesn't work, you started twisting it…
Yeah, you do know much more than everyone else. Who cares if it's unrelated to reality?
Assumptions frequently lead one astray.
