Beauty and the Beast by Jean Cocteau 1947. Fantasy and magic that has never been equaled.
Leaving aside the highly questionable score, The Last Unicorn has gravitas, beauty and a sense of the tragic.

Got to add Stephen Chow's KUNG FU HUSTLE to this list. I don't think its recognized that the film is as much a fairy tale as The Princess Bride, mixing elements of kung fu mysticism and wuxia (adventure fiction based on legends) heroism with slapstick, Chuck Jones influenced humor and movie pastiche.
