By your definition of "all", every statement containing "all" would be false except a truism. Truisms are statements like "All wet things are wet."

Not really sure where you're going with this. Your statement "all women are catty and manipulative" is grossly inaccurate and offensive. Everything you say afterwards supports the impression that you're trying to be offensive and have no desire to discuss any facts but are simply happy to sit on your high perch,

No, the reasons aren't arbitrary. The statements "Men... " or "Women... " are correct as long as even one member of the said group performs the action described. Whether a generalization is fair to use or not is determined by who might get slighted by it. If it is a group that controls most of the power in every way

I agree. She's totally awesome :)

That specific case is... Strange. I don't know anything about it. I can't defend someone who made a comment like that. On the other hand, I don't know any context so I can't condemn them either.

I applaud your attitude :) If everyone had it, the world would be a much better place. Everyone is tempted to get defensive and try to make themselves look good. But it's not about those of us who are getting the better side of things. It's about making it so everyone gets the better side :)

Yes, I said "shark attacks" rather than just "attacks" for that exact reason. Sexual violence is done predominantly by men, against women. If I said, "Men take the subway to work" then I'm not really talking about an issue related to a specific group.

Caught between sarcasm and criticism, I can't help but laugh. See, I actually studied statistics. In practical terms, "all" is meaningless. Numbers are what really matters. If you actually care to know something about the subject, you can start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidenc…

I have no idea what that statement is supposed to mean. Who is excusing what here?

You are missing the point. If the overwhelming majority of people performing sexual assault are men, then saying "men sexually assault people" is correct. If I say "Sharks are responsible for shark attacks on people," am I in any way incorrect? Not all sharks attack people. Nevertheless, my statement is 100% correct,

Are you sure that's the larger problem? The larger problem are people who say "men sexually assault women" instead of saying "some men sexually assault women?" The larger problem are people who way "men make over 20% more than women for the same work" instead of saying "men, on average make over 20% more than women

Did I say women? Did I say all women? I said, "for everyone who isn't part of a heavily privileged group." Do you even know what privilege means?

Hmm... Fair point. Oh wait... The original statement isn't "All men..." The original statement was "Men..." To which the response was "Not all men..." I used "All men..." as a hyperbole, which, you may find, men use just as much as everyone else. Notice how I didn't say "all men." I just said "men." So, do you feel

It's only hypocrisy if you have a problem with men as a group being accused of doing something only the vast majority of men do. The statement "Men sexually assault women" is syntactically correct, even if not 100% of all men assault women 100% of time they are alive. If you work backwards, and take a statistical

I think it's attached to the memo showing that there are more women with privilege then men. You mean that memo doesn't exist yet? Oh...

All men (provided that they are able to understand the English language and are capable of humor) should find this meme hilarious and awesome. Of course, Not All Men will, but that's part of the problem.

Or, or, you might recognize the validity of a person's argument without becoming fixated on the particulars of whether "All" can be allowed to mean 50% or 60% or even 80% of a population rather than strictly 100% at all times.

Not all men use "Not All Men" arguments, amirite?

Mmm :) I have to say I'm impressed with the image quality considering the poor washroom lighting. Definitely best photo you're likely to get at a gala.

Let's do a little thought exercise. Imagine that this photo was staged. It could have been part of some ad campaign for deodorant or something. Would the photo have provoked a pleased murmur or maybe a chuckle? Now, let's say that a few weeks after the campaign started that the photo was actually not staged, that it
