I must add: This does not change how we behave. If anything it makes us less neurotic and more compassionate. Since we never had any free will in the first place how could it?
The reason free will cant exist is because of the fact that decisions cant have origin points. There simply is nowhere to put it. Everything just happens. Both in reality and in our moment to moment experience.
You can not control what your next thought is going to be. So how can the amount of thought regarding a decision have something to do with its level of freedom?
Is this not irrelevant? To me it appears as if the core issue is that of a decisions starting point. Since everything following is just physics (random or deterministic makes no difference).
Most of these people who "disagree" are working with different definitions, of "free" or "will", or the two together. This will likely come into play in the comments, as well.
