TIME ENOUGH FOR LOVE by Robert Heinlein

Some fun reading.

STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND by Robert Heinlein. You would know if you read it...

The Dresden Files

What you wrote about Consider Phlebas (which I haven't read - on the shortlist), I have to say about Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination.

I know it slides more into comic territory but I will defend the genius of "Bone" until my dying day.

Not sci fi but a smart, straight down the line thriller with believable , interesting characters and great writing.

What's worse, putting up with the micro-agressions and subtle remarks by standing up to it, or being criticized for taking the stance she's taking without slapping on the 'feminism' label on it?

Hi there. It's not for others to prove you wrong. It's for you to prove yourself right. Prove that most geek costumes were designed by men. Prove that women had little or no input on the production or appreciation of geekdom.

Being a male-dominated culture, there are LOTS of things that were originally designed "for" men and often times at the expense of, or at least without regard for, women.

Bullshit. Appealing to "human nature" is just as fallacious and lazy in this case as it was when it was used to justify racial segregation.

Do you know what it really means when a woman dresses in a particular outfit? It means that a woman is dressed in a particular outfit. That's all. You can think whatever you want

I think what you maybe missing is this: it's incredibly unfair to women to tell them that there is a "right" or "wrong" way to dress, even if it's coded as "more feminist way to dress". If you dress attractively, people (including other women) will say "Well, you realize you're inviting the male gaze." If you cover

You do realize what an incredible catch-22 that is for women, right? If we want to dress up as/empathize with/simply enjoy like female characters in mainstream geek popular culture, most of them are subject to male gaze sexualization. Maybe she could have chosen a TNG character like Crusher, but why the fuck shouldn't
