Mourning/grief is spot on. Another bit of advice my dad gave me (married at 20/divorced at 25) was that my ex and I were likely in different stages of mourning. Having been so unhappy in the marriage for a long time, I had a;ready been grieving, trying to build up courage to leave, etc.

In my experience, the difference is in someone having a heart-to-heart to really get at where you're coming from, feeling, etc. and people being judgey and weird, gossiping, etc.
