This. I found myself needing to do a 3 point turn on a country highway a few days ago in my S class. At least back in the day with the old time stalk shifter you could at least hold on to the damn thing as you were doing it so you could slam that baby in and out of reverse quickly.

The shifter is used to rest your wrist on while using the MMI system. It is actually very comfortable. The A6 and the A8 have been doing this for the last few years already.

Actually, once you get used to it (a solid day's worth of driving - tops) the Audi MMI interface is shockingly intuitive.
