Actually... in loco parentis is a specific term that the earlier commenter partially correctly defined. It goes back several hundred years to where the college faculty/administrators acted in lieu of parents. They could make rules and enforce rules just as a parent would.

I am a hardcore Tolkien nerd and I LOVED the Hobbit. Saw it 4x in theaters. The problem is, everyone seems to hate it. My friends who just sorta like LOTR, friends who are also Tolkien nerds, critics, and the general public.
