I just bought a TV! We cut the cords a long time ago and watch content on our laptops, but one of them is having a sound issue. Decided to go for it and buy a flat screen, which just arrived yesterday. When our holiday visitors come we won't all have to huddle around a little laptop screen to watch a movie.

Nope, don't really care. Just means less clutter in my feed and gives more attention to the folks I really care about.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't considered using my smart phone like a scanner and that completely cuts the cords! I checked it out on the app store and also found a CamScanner app. Does the same thing, but more widely used and slightly better reviews (but more expensive). Have you tried that one, too? I'm installing now!

Interesting. What format does it scan to or is there some flexibility? Assuming it uses your camera to scan, are the scans good enough to read all of the page content? How do you combine multi page documents into one file?

I use Dreamhost. They get a lot of love from other Life Hackers and are reliable and reasonably priced. However, I'm not terribly impressed with site performance (speed).

Amanda @Doxie,

Target limits by dollar amount (I can't recall the exact amount) how much you can return without a receipt within a given year to limit their losses from people gaming the system, which, by the way, is completely unethical. That's why they ask to see your driver's license so they can keep track of you.

Yip, I appreciate the info. Lack of duplex scanning is a deal breaker for me :(.

Adam, thanks for the reply and thank you for the new post on Doxie! Super appreciate it. :)

Sorry DeboraD, I missed your reply. I didn't switch browsers at the time, but I just tried today and the links aren't working again.

Adam, thank you for the post! A few questions if you don't mind:

My mother-in-law taught me this trick. She does it with everything that comes out of the wash, but she's OCD that way. I find it's really only necessary with things like bedding, towels, and large garments. Generally, not necessary for things like undies, socks, kids clothing and smaller garments.

I have Google apps at work and a personal account. Works well in my personal account, but not the work account. I like this feature - thanks for sharing.

Never occurred to me to throw my laundry cup in the wash. Mine is getting pretty slimy. I'm going to try this tip!

I love the photo canvas and magnet ideas. I was going to order some photo canvases at $30 a pop (on sale) as gifts, but I think I'll try making some instead! I've also seen a similar technique with photos applied to wood, which looked really cool, too.

Over the weekend, the kids and I made terrariums to give as teacher gifts. They are really cool and we enjoyed our nature walk and trip to the beach collecting moss, sand and pebbles for the project. We also made a huge batch of granola we plan to give to family in glass jars. Made the house smell great!

Just tried them all again and they're working. Thanks!

Doxie looks like a compelling alternative! Much more affordable than the Fujitsu ScanSnap. Thanks for sharing this gadget. I'd love for you to do a post that compares the two.

Adam, several of your buy links are broken. examples: hanging drawer organizer, Fujitsu ScanSnap and Doxie

Gosh, I'd love an easier to use alternative to Photoshop, but (sigh) I'm a PC user.
