In book 1 I hated Quentin. But he had some great character growth through the series. Kind of odd to cut that short. 

I really think the series should start with the first book. That was setup for a perfect cinematic introduction to the character and the world with the aliens showing up towards the end. 

The opening episode of all the seasons save maybe the First episode from season 1 all have to do a lot of heavy lifting to let you know where people are and refresh the stories from previous seasons. If past indications are correct next episode should be amazing.
