Every time I see "JLaw" used with a picture of Jennifer Lawrence, I can't help but wonder whether Jude Law got a sex change.

It lacks the sting. It's not necessarily a degrading flaw, either, although it's usually properly applied to only antagonists.

That is not strictly fair to say. America has a whole market devoted to pornographic films and amateur videos, and they aren't censored at all. However, neither these films nor Japanese adult games are allowed on game consoles in either country.

Yeah, I am probably unfair on Lightning. How is she in the sequels, though? She's been called Jesus in Lightning Returns, but I just can't stomach yet another dose of that series to find out.

The flaws I speak of are the intentional ones: ones that are used to prove a point, set a character arc in motion, and so on. If a character is weak (and maybe even submissive!), but grows over time, then that weakness is acceptable in my eyes.

Kind of a pity that writing female characters with personality flaws is frowned upon these days. Many writers and fans seem to think that writing women to be powerful and independent does the medium and gender justice. Examples are numerous:
