Well said, hooey. The kids who doubled up and checked Jablonski from behind and on the boards (!) did so because the adults—parents, coaches, and league officials—are promoting a culture that tolerates (and therefore promotes) it.
Sadly, this horrific injury appears to have been entirely preventable. Two players targeted this forward as he was on the boards with the puck, and though the check from behind was not especially forceful (according to his parents and his coach), it must have been high in order to cause damage where it did.
