I can't speak for Doug and rarely feel compelled to defend him, but IME "Yeah, so that happened" is a non-judgmental expression of surprise, the idea being that you feel compelled to say something but are fairly speechless.

People are objecting to "more people should go gluten-free." Maybe everyone should at least consider it, maybe some people would do well to cut back, but who really cares what an individual stranger eats? Even in that quote you posted, Dr. Weil suggests reducing foods rather than eliminating them entirely and to eat

I respectfully disagree. The implied problem isn't that the quality of the product suffers, but that a company would have no problem profiting from (mostly) women while employing (mostly) men.

Well, hey, what else could you have said that wouldn't have been blatant misinformation (like "because Jesus was born on December 25th")?

When someone says "men shouldn't rape," it's typically in response to a victim-blaming statement like "women shouldn't do X if they don't want to be raped." It's tongue-in-cheek, pointing out the overgeneralization about what women shouldn't do, by making an obvious generalization about what men shouldn't do.

More like a time travel scenario. Someone who is you, not just someone who looks like you.

Ryan, in my observation and experience you are the king of internet-famous guys at creator/fan interaction; like, you're some kind of savant, seriously. What is even your deal?

Oooh, I have secondhand embarrassment.

With you 100%. And I'm white.

Don't worry, we know there are lots of kinds of British people. We have a full set of stereotypes for each one.

Have you ever read or watched something and thought about what might have happened after the ending, or what might be about to happen (if the series is unfinished), or what might be happening behind the scenes, or what probably isn't going to happen but you'd like it if it did? If that scenario involves romance,

But then, isn't it his lifestyle that's the problem, and not specifically his weight?

It changed when the commenting system switched to Kinja, because the commenting hierarchy was removed. Those people were always there - their comments just didn't appear to anyone who wasn't a starred commenter.

HAHAHA. Genius.

She probably meant "at the behest of."

I see what you're saying, but 1) the effect the crime will have on the community is also an important part of the story, and South Africa's rape problem is absolutely relevant to that; and 2) one of the attackers was the victim's ex, so it seems unlikely that the sexual aspects of the crime were just incidental to the

A librarian friend once told me that, at least in her (now former) system, when your overdue fines get past a certain amount - I think it was $500 - the library sells your debt to a debt collector and then they come after you. Maybe it would be for the best if Lindsay Lohan weren't able to get a library card.

No. Is that something a teacher would say?

She really should have put a line in the middle saying, "if you comment on this article, please use the word 'pickles' so that everyone who actually read it knows you did too."

HAHAHAHAHA!
