I'm not familiar with the UAW myself, but from what I read they're a bunch of useless crooks. Still, in theory unions are a great idea. It just sucks that theory sometimes clashes with reality.

These NYT reporters really need to get out of the city once and a while and see what happens in the rest of the country. Come to Houston or Wyoming or even L.A. and enlighten us about how Car Culture is declining. How fascinating.
