CVT’s with paddle shifters are among the dumbest things in cars today. If you want gears to shift, get an automatic. If you want to select gears, get a manual. If you want to spend your commute in a soul-crushingly boring “premium” small sedan, get a CVT.

As may be, Volkswagen spent a lot of years grinding their reputation as the “People’s Car” into fine powder. I remember vividly my mother’s Cabriolet regularly requiring expensive repairs. I’ve read endless stories of unreliability, some of them right here on Jalopnik.

Nice looking ride, yet, I’m way too high mileage adverse to feel good about spending $9,500 on a 14 year old 160K mile Audi.

Having been an Audi owner, spanning 12 years, I know the benefit of better-than-regular maintenance. It’s not so much the engine and drivetrain that is the issue on a well maintained Audi. It’s literally every single other component.

A little bit of planning can go a long way when moving oversized cargo, like in the case of this nice little 200-ton spectrometer that needed to take a 400 km drive, but went on a 8800 km trip instead, all for just 600,000 Euros! :)
