IMO, there is a clear vegetation difference between the French northern and southern Alps, i would put the demarcation between Grenoble and Gap, it also depends on the soil, the préalpes (where the Mont-Ventoux is located) being limestone while the alps are granitic which are making a huge difference on the soil…
