either TSF jazz, the french national jazz station, or Nostalgie, the french oldies station. the first for, of course, the jazz, and it is a pretty good station. the other because it is good for enculturation, namely to learn the local music culture by learning what was popular back in the day. though, the oldies now

hah ha! but it really does look like san diego though. i lived in that area for a few years. driving around here really does remind me of the corridor up to LA. it’s the hills and flora, semi tropical/semi arid desert. here’s a photo from february, not too far from st tropez, about 5km away just up in the hills. :)

except st tropez is mediterranean, in south france, about 100 miles as the crow flies from the italian border. ;)

i live 15 minutes from st tropez. (ok, 15 minutes in winter time, 60+ minutes tourist season) i would not go down there unless i absolutely had to, it sucks. it’s a nice village and all, but it is mostly to see and be seen. to see the rich and famous or to be looked down up upon by them. the things people will do and

realistically, if i see a car of another colour, other than the tyranny of the big 5 colours, on the streets near st tropez where i live, they are almost all invarably a fiat 500.

i would have to say i was a combo of stoner/philosopher fuckboy. i would say i am simply a middle aged slacker, sans classification at this moment. when they eventually legalize weed in europe and my kid is an adult i will probably revert to stoner, because why the hell not? :D

boy is my memory a mess, appparently it is not from what i thought. the ottomans had a language reform in the 1800s, and a lot of the french loan words that came from their attempts of westernisation by sending students to europe. the adoption of the romantic alphabet was a post-ottoman reform by Ataturk, in an

i always find it interesting to find the french loan words that have been adopted by the turkish language, stemming from the language reforms of the (late) ottoman empire. the example here is gazoz= gazeuse=carbonated water. (Tk=Fr=En) i cannot find a good link. if i remember correctly it had a lot to do with the

what, no rolls royce?

i love going into french supermarkets at the end of november and getting free glasses of beaujolais nouveau handed to me, usually along with some hors d’œuvre. always makes my day, because i always forget. :D

ah crap, they took out the anti-semetic commentator. i came back to try to puzzle out what they were trying to say, after backing out initially because of the WAY TOO CRAZY. oh well, i probably just saved myself a few brain cells. :)

what none of these articles address is why she was put under conservatorship in the first place and what possible reason would there be to continue it? i know it’s good for the clicks, but there is no context to this article. wasn’t she put under this initially because of her mental health? is it possible that her

Now playing

this should have been the song for the summer of 2020...

yeah, i am an american immigrant in france. i do sometimes get some of the hello america goods when it comes around. but a lot of the times i just have to take photos of some of the selctions because they’re a bit out there. :)

i had to go back to find that error. that one’s pretty glaring... :)

hah ha! just the other day i was commenting on the seeming parody of american food, in another takeout article, in foreign food markets. (france in my case) i mentioned that one of the ones that seemed like a parody was the popcorn cupcake. so, here’s a real american popcorn cake! it exists! :D

some horrible combination of marshmallow and rocky mountain oysters? :D

the thing is, is that it is not completely wrong. it is filtered through the media. this is how americans are percieved through the lens of what they project out to the world. it seems to be a parody but this is how they see americans. it might not make sense to americans, but it is their attempt to make sense of

yeah, a new york hotdog is hotdog, relish, and swiss cheese?

this is like when we have “american days” in france at the frozen food store called Picard. it’s like a bizarro parody of american food. some of it is good; liked pulled pork, cinnimon rolls, and jalepeno cheese balls. others like popcorn cupcakes and cake filled with m&m like candies, start a descent into madness...
