What just floors me- and it shouldn’t, I should be used to it, but it does, is that there are two instant reactions I see from a certain group of people whenever these tragedies happen:

There is a lot of stuff that you simply aren’t aware of when you are not poor, which is why being poor is a subject that requires some practical experience to be able to competently comment on. Otherwise, you are simply reading off the rules and not understanding the reasons that people end up running afoul of those

“Was it hard to “do it”?” I whispered gently salivating into my children’s portioned French toast.

So relevant today. RIP.

I will never forget this moment, when Mr. Wiesel implored the President of the United States to do the right thing:

Good news! The parts of Alexander Hamilton’s life that involved radical Islam and FBI surveillance have been cut from the play as well.

“While Carolyn [had] told him in the past that she wanted to die, she [had] never asked him specifically to kill her.”

I always knew god hated socialists.

I teach 4th grade, and one of my kiddos asked if he could do sharing on Friday. He brought in his iPad and started to talk about his favorite singer who had recently died. He played “Let’s Dance” for the class and shared pictures that he found on the internet. It was the sweetest thing ever! Most of the class had no

Maybe those schools should close up shop if they can’t manage to cover their costs. Alternatively, raise tuition or seek *private* funding for their *private* schools.

I would guess some generously compensated private school administrators are cozy with some, er, let’s say ‘creative’ representatives in New York’s notoriously corrupt municipal government.

If you opt out of a government program, you shouldn’t expect the government to pay for your private replacement for it.

Boo hoo. If they want to undermine a necessary public institution by opting out, they can pay for it.

So what? That’s tax money that goes to public schools. Just because you choose not to use the public schools that tax money rightfully goes to doesn’t mean that tax money follows you to a private school.

I have a huge beef with the expectations that many millennials my age (30) - regardless of race - have of their parents helping them and comparing what they get (or don’t get) to their better off peers. It was made very clear to me growing up that my parents would never be able to help me the way some of my well off

Because an inheritance is ipso facto someone else’s money. You draw a paycheck and/or a portion of the business from your “as much as you can” work in the family business. The portion that you inherit would be the part that is not yours already: your parents’ portion. This is a truism, not an assumption. You cannot

...And this is the part where I propose the 100% federal estate tax.
