I’ve seen the news in Dallas reporting that the child’s bilirubin level (the stuff that causes jaundice) was 21! Which was high enough to cause brain damage. The doctor told the family to urgently go to the hospital. The family declined and follows advice of the midwife. Im a black pediatrician myself. I would also

Hospitalization for jaundice depending on severity, cause, risk for worsening, and how aggressive the treatment (phototherapy) is, may only be about 36-48 hours. So it’s possible that if the child was hospitalized for 36 hours or so, then the child is out.

We don’t know if the baby was in the hospital for a few days.. there is home treatment too but you need equipment.

The fact that they’ve had the same pediatrician for 10 years was the bit that sounded odd to me, too.  That presumably means they already have other children and this doctor saw no reason to call CPS about them, so that seems to imply that something was different in this case...

I’m a black pediatrician and something signficant is missing from this story. The reasons why black families choose midwives and home births are unfortunate and justified by how they are treated. And jaundice is a common condition that doesn’t require treatment...until it does. And then when it does, it needs to be

When my daughter was 14 she ended up in emergency with something that ended up being very minor. However when your kid presents with stabbing abdominal pain and can’t stand up, you go.

Seems like a lot of Texans share commonalities with the Taliban. Love of guns, and control of women. However I am concerned about Jan’s future plans regarding her sex work. Clearly her birth control failed her. Does she have other ideas about how to protect her health and prevent more unwanted prenancies? I am

Yep. That she thinks of “what a rational adult does as a matter of course” as “pampering” says a lot. It’s not pampering to do your fair share of household chores.

Yeah that stuck out to me. The “pampering” she describes are all things many women do by default.

“Doing the laundry” is not “pampering” ffs. It’s doing the basics as a partner in a marriage.

Probably Mother makes him wear that kind when she’s forced into her wifely duties, so he got confused.

This is like finding a roach in your ice cream.

What you see here hinges on whether you believe that “Make America Great Again” is a dog whistle meant to unite racists, misogynists, and homophobes under one umbrella, or you’re delusional and don’t care about people who aren’t white men.

Can you guys do a bourbon tasting with Pringles snack cups? Can you also un-grey me?

Exactly why these fail. They get the pity buys, then realize you cannot build a clothing empire by continuing to pressure your 8 friends into buying this shit.

Okay, I actually am in a polyamorous relationship, and have been since about 2001, and I can tell MVP that there’s actually a term for the bullshit her boyfriend is pulling. It’s called “Relationship Broken? Add More People!”, and it refers specifically to the kind of person who thinks that polyamory is a solution to

I’m the cook in the family too. My son is interested in cooking as well.

If all his female supporters came out of the kitchens to help him, then who’s gonna make his sandwich?

women are good at putting yard signs in the ground because we mastered those arm movements through centuries of placing dishes back in the cabinet. its evolution

What the hell did I just read?
