Totally. My mom jokes that my voice even changes when I'm in "doctor mode." But seriously, you compartmentalize like crazy, and that includes dong-feelings. There are, of course, horrible, awful exceptions that seem to always make the news and then we all look like assholes. But sexy thoughts about a patient are like

A lot of doctors I know, including the young and crazy skirt chasing ones, say that patients are patients are patients. Inside of work. Outside of work it's a whole 'nother matter. Does that stand to be true?

You can't fight the Jezebel hive mind on this. All women are perfect and never do anything inappropriate.

I expect a cardiologist to take better care of their heart than the average joe. I expect a female OBGYN to take care of her lady parts better than the average jane. I also expect that if anything did go wrong, she would go in for care far sooner than a non-OB. Therefore, she would likely have little experience with

"But a lesbian saying, "I think that girl is hot." is completely fucking different between a doctor making inappropriate and unprofessional remarks about their patient."

Just like there are inappropriate and unprofessional males there are *gasp* females that fit that same description. I've worked banquets for rich

This may come as a shock to you, but vaginas (and breasts and uteri and ovaries) are just like any other body part—shit can go wrong and it has nothing to do with your education or income level. Do you think gastroenterologists have some edge on avoiding Crohn's disease or colitis? Well, it's the same deal with lady

Not many. I have also not read many articles about male OB/GYNs being prosecuted for inappropriate behavior, either. Which is why, yes, I think your hang up is irrational. But who cares if I think that way, I am just a stranger on the Internet.

You are (obviously) allowed to prefer whatever doctor you want but pretending that a female doctor that prefers women is incapable of a) regular human thoughts or b) being a predator in the same way that any other doctor is, is not accurate. It happens.

This is pretty much why I have no problem seeing male doctors. I really don't think my vagina is so on point that it's going to leave a trained dude that's seen 30 other ones today speechless.

I have to say, I'm a lawyer, but had I been smart enough to be a doctor, I could see myself going into OB/GYN. Primarily because I'm a feminist, and I think one of the ways to reach women for all health concerns, is by being a GYN. Also, the babehs. Delivering a baby must be pretty rewarding. Like the one doctor said,

Who's "forcing" you to do something you are not comfortable with? Last time I checked, my telling you that perhaps you have an irrational hang up doesn't translate into me somehow forcibly ensuring that you see a male gynecologist.

You don't think a lesbian OB would rather work on a 'hottie' (whatever that means to her) than on a non-hottie?

Daughter of an OB/GYN here...when asked, my dad says he got into it because you aren't the bearer of bad news, but you still get to do some pretty complicated surgeries. It's intellectually engaging but also you're a pretty positive force in someone's life. If you find something that's not quite right, you can fix it,

For every beautiful vagina attached to a gorgeous woman a gyno sees, they probably see 20 rancid/funky/yeast-ridden ones. I cannot imagine that's a favorable trade-off.

+1,000. My male gyno is thankfully much younger (early 40s, I'm guessing), so I will be able to continue to go to him forever and ever. He's fantastic. And yeah, in my limited experience with female gynos (and one female nurse practitioner I was forced to go to when my regular doctor was unavailable), was horribly

It's fine if you don't feel comfortable going to a male OB/GYN, but that's really your own hang up and not really related to what he said. He said he was completely professional and essentially de-sensitized to vaginas. He also said that yes, he notices an attractive women. What he didn't say was, "Because I am a

Would you refuse to see a lesbian OBGYN as well?

I have a male gyno. He's about 60 - I wouldn't go to anyone else (until he retires, obviously). I went to a female gyno once in college and it was a horrible experience - I've never had anyone be so judgmental of me. I'd probably stick to dudes just because of that experience.

These days, I think if we all coordinated our efforts, we could make "pharoahsbones" famous within 48 hours.

being that selena and justin are totally the next wave's britney and justin, i very well could be. should have been them in the denim outfits, not katy perry and riff raff.
