My brain is hurting from trying to find a good reason why I need to buy this! Apart from trolling all the Macbook sheep in my local Silicon Valley Philz Coffee once the pandemic is over, I’m struggling.

It has two 18650mAh lithium cells in there:

The video says that machine learning can do amazing thing. This is true. But it’s also true that 90% of time it’ll do crap things.

The burden of proof is on the party making the claim. Until solid evidence is presented these claims can be dismissed.

Trumps layers had to admit that it’s not true that Republican pool watchers weren’t allowed in. What wasn’t allowed was adding a Republican flash mob after the count was underway. Even this Fox reporter called bullshit on that:

And unfortunately, once factory programmed, there’s no support for a firmware update.

I missed that story about her new book. That is indeed troubling. It certainly does seem that she is doubling down.

I agree that if dialog fails, we move on an accept that some people are stuck. My point is simply not to default to giving up. The rewards of trying can be worth the effect.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I meant shutting down Rowling, rather than engaging in dialog with her should not be the default path.

So let’s delete from history anyone who has views that are slightly under-evolved, and represent where most people were just a few years ago?

and likely because of sexist assumptions about division of labor in western society”

Scaramucci has been speaking out about Trump in numerous interviews for some time now. He’s also been owning his mistakes.

Maybe America does, but the rest of the world and the environment would not deserve the ramifications of American stupidity.

Based on 3:10 in the video, this could be used by 3D printer owners in case there’s another run on toilet paper! ;-)

If people would be livid it’s because they were being fooled in to acting against their own best interests: buying an objectively inferior product as a byproduct of an evolved amygdala response to touch that served a very different evolutionary purpose.

It’s a lot more complicated than that. Most plastic waste is from single use packaging. The back of a phone that the average consumer keeps for 3 years, and then may be left in a drawer, or upcycled when traded in, isn’t really creating problems with plastic waste. And then there’s the fact that it takes a LOT less

I never liked the sharp corner iPhones (this is not new in iPhones, they had it in the iPhone 6 era, I think). They don’t feel nice in the hand.

Plastic is also better for RF signals. And accidents happen. If they didn’t, those of us in the consumer electronics industry wouldn’t have to spend so much of our time and effort making our products resilient.

Plastic on the back of a phone is a better material choice in terms of function (durability, ease to grip, weight) than glass. But phone manufacturers keep giving us materials that work less well (like shatter when you drop them) because people think they feel “premium”.

There were handheld mechanical calculators long before this. The Computer History museum in Mountain View, CA has a very nice collection.
