You are so wrong. Many VPN providers will allow unlimited bandwidth. We have users who report 30-60mbps regularly. If you have a 30mbit pipe and are only getting 5-8mbit on the VPN chances are you're being throttled by your ISP, using a crappy VPN service, or if your using OpenVPN your choosing TCP instead of UDP.
