Well your system isn't a million miles away from my own, and I can run the game 'out of the box' from Steam, so my first thought would be to make sure there's a) no other programs running in the background that may interfere with it and b) that there's no write permission errors that just aren't being reported.
It's only some recent titles, to be fair. Luckily the PC library is so constant, there's always alternative titles. Vote with your wallet. That said, it always sucks when all you want to do is play Batman.
