Thac0 was kind of a nightmare to get used to in the tabletop game, but once you were acquainted, it wasn't *that* bad.
You're being way too hard on yourself! It was a decent review, especially for the time, when video games were far more of a nerdy hobby, and publications like Gamepro were still in business. It's easy to take things out of context when using your hindsight, after all.
BG I & II are some of the most excellently crafted games of all time, and I say that with the utmost effort to divorce myself from nostalgia.

I actually liked Avatar a lot, but I saw it long after the hype and controversy died down. It's right between Ferngully and Dances With Wolves, two other movies I enjoy.
