Without the fire chicago was a shitty city. With the fire they were able to be reborn, becoming one of the greatest architectural cities in the world, and thus making them relevant. Boom.

I've seen both La Liga and EPL games in person. I was at Ronaldo's presentation and saw his first two goals with Real Madrid. I have heard the Santiago Bernabeu chant Raul's name after scoring a goal, and even though Bridgeview is in the middle of nowhere I'd prefer Toyota Park than supporting primarily a lame team

As a member of the Sons Of Ben I have to say Chicago Fire songs are horrible...

Pretty much hit it on the nail. But they'll have the last laugh when/if MLS hits the soccer jackpot in America. Hmmmm...be super dedicated and exclusive? Or be a little more open for casual support? It ain't easy.

i like your enthusiasm, i wish i could be half as excited about red bulls soccer. but how can an entire city fuck off to milwaukee?

The team was founded on the 127th anniversary of the fire, so I guess they thought it was smart. Also, the current owners aren't the original owners and likely anyone involved with the naming hasn't worked there for a while.

We don't name ourselves the Chicago Fire because Chicago burned to the ground. We named ourselves that because the city rebuilt itself and didn't puss out and fuck off to Milwaukee when they had the chance.

Agreed, Peter is cool as shit too. The man is a genius. He also invented Schlapst, (1/2 Schlitz & 1/2 Pabst)...A miracle man.

What asshole in the front office has been shitting in Dan's free Quaker oats?

I guess the uniforms are cool and all (much cooler than I thought they would be), and the group of guys they got together look like they know what they're doing, but I still have very low expectations for this team. I mean, I know the transfer window is still open, but even the Amish seem like a more complete side at

This is just pure comedy gold. I might have to become a MLS fan now... which was probably the point.

Why can't we be honest any more? Dan was honest. I don't have an MLS team, but Chicago is close and seems like as good a team as any for me to support. I didn't pay attention to the MLS at first because I figured it would fail. It is slowly growing. Might be worth a look.

The dude's in dire need of a bag of weed and an editor.

This was all just a ploy to get people to think about the Chicago Fire... which is actually his job! Well done, Dan.

Chicago Fire hasn't been the same club since they fired Peter Wilt.

Oh, I knew who he was. I'm one of the Americans who does care about the Premiership.

It's Robin van Persie, Mike. He's a Dutch forward for Manchester United whose image is recognized pretty much around the world. He's also a pretty stark reminder of just how irrelevant West Virginia football is when you think about it.

Robin Van Persie. A guy with more worldwide recognition than any football player stateside.

Ahhh yes. Can't wait for all those awesome Notre Dame games NBC will be airing instead!

Their NFL coverage is unspeakably awful, so I'm content to relegate it to the same bin as First Take if other shows turn out be worthwhile. I'm not going to stop watching ESPN, but having a second option is something I've wanted for a long time so I'm hoping for the best.
