I was interested at first in the improvements to the gameplay with them moving to the GTAV style mechanics, but this just makes it all seem slipshod and rushed.

Elite Force and Elite Force 2 both have (almost) all the TV characters reprising their roles, and are built on IDtech3, so the underlying gameplay is pretty solid. The story is camp as fuck, of course.
