This may totally be true, but I stopped reading when the author of that post mentioned menstrual synchrony... Um, guys, can we stop citing papers that have been thoroughly debunked on the basis of faulty statistics?

Interesting point. I'm not sure what article Reuters was actually talking about, since this is a long-standing research program. But this one definitely is all done on individuals already diagnosed with anorexia. The problem being of course that to get images before onset, you'd have to spend a LOT of money to test…
I believe researchers have been well aware for some time of the apparent similarities between OCD and eating disorders. Although I'm not an expert on those subjects, when I think of treatments for both, they seem relatively similar to me (lots of behavioral treatments).
So there are lots of medical areas where research on women just isn't done. I wouldn't criticize the autism research community too much though. The difference between autism rates in girls and boys is, in my opinion, too large to not have some basis in sex differences. (Here is a compilation of different ideas as to…
The best part is not that long ago it was men who were seen as overly emotional dreamers and women were the pragmatic, get-stuff-done type
It is definitely tricky. I'm not familiar with previous Microsoft trademark takedowns, but my feeling is that this project is well within the bounds of what the rules are intended to allow. That said, a slip-up could certainly result in Microsoft stepping in.
So in what way does it violate Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules?
It appears to actually follow the Game Content Usage Rules. I'm actually really surprised how nice the rules are, given, you know, Microsoft.
I love how they pretend that my penis is worthless.
Thank you, oh so much for sharing.
Exactly. The vast majority of HPV carriers will never get cancer from it. It's still a very small chance. But we've all got to do our part for the herd immunity.
Anyone can get the vaccine. If your doctor won't let you, find a new doctor, that's not his/her choice to make.
By which you really mean they Total Recalled a mouse.
Aww, I had a 50lb pitbull mix and 60lb akita mix who I used a similar strategy with. Except instead of giving them cheese I quickly shut the shower door and then make an evil laugh as they slid around the bathtub
Don't you mean "'FratPAC' Lobbies FOR Hazing, Beacuse of Course It Does"?
Protip: Most people who say that say it even though it isn't true. What they mean is "I care very deeply about my pet, I am unwilling to abandon it if you are allergic/don't like it"
So, I tend to also think of sex/porn addiction in the same class as gambling, but I think it'll actually probably be more closely related to eating disorders in the end. But what's really interesting is why I have no data to back this up.
Totally agree that there are differences between lab stimuli and the real thing. That said, there is brain-based evidence of neural differences when you show addicts pictures of the things they're addicted to. As shown for gamblers and heavy smokers, again for smokers, and even for people with eating disorders.
I typically like to think of sex addiction in the way we think about gambling addiction, but sadly I don't think the evidence is there that it's even at that level. While people talk about gambling withdrawal, people tend not to talk about sex withdrawal. The sites that do mention it tend to be Sex Addicts Anonymous…
Well these two sets of things are clearly overlapping. If you allow sex addiction to be a thing, then certainly some serial cheaters will also be sex addicts. And some people who don't use condoms will also be sex addicts.
