I think Rolls Royce prefers a more sensitive name to not put off their customers :-) But yes, rear hinged is also a “suicide door”.

Think they’ve solved that with the invention of seatbelts and the use of the soft closing latch that will ensure the door isn’t partially closed. We have the suicide doors on a 1929 Cadillac and yes, on those, you have to make sure you give them a good slam shut and pull them out without pressing the handle down to…
The coupe is the driver’s car so the umbrella is where you can see and reach it before you get out. The 4 door Phantom is where the owner rides in the back, and his slightly wet butler must prepare the umbrella before the owner steps out. :-)
You’re right! I’d love to see one stripped down. Also hidden in that hinge mechanism is an actuator to close it at the touch of a button. One wouldn’t want to over exert one’s self reaching out for such a large door now would you.
Wow! Very happy to see my suggestion made the number one spot! If only the prize money was enough to buy one! Here’s the pair of images I posted in the original thread. You can see the throwbacks even though it’s a very modern piece of design. I do think it contributes to the timeless quality of the design. The design…
They don’t make fins like they used to... While I know they won’t be doing something as extravagant as my baby below any time soon - I have noticed how the brake lights protrude a little bit past the body and it’s a nice subtle throwback. Also while not at all retro I do love the floating logo in the Escalade tail…
I would say the “coach” suicide doors with the very elegant, slightly raked back leading edge that’s almost impossible on a car with conventional doors, and strong almost upright C-pillar on the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe that can go way back to the Phantom Coupe’s of the early 30’s. And the subtle swept line under the…
This! And the up-kick on the exhausts and the placement of the Jaguar logo... beautifully designed cars, both of them.
Having been fortunate enough to own a Toyota GT and see a 2000 GT in the flesh, there’s a many similarities, some obvious and some very subtle. The side window shapes are very similar, but a more subtle one is on the top. The rib lines in the roof skin were a nice detail that carries over. Maybe not the coolest, but…
That top one if absolutely stunning. Would love to see that as a front engine production model some day. Especially if it was Bugatti’s answer to the McLaren 570 - and somewhat attainable. :)
Thanks!!
The imposing height of the grill was one of the best parts of the old design.
Was really looking forward to tomorrow’s reveal to see what has been upped in the specs. Now I’m left just hoping that this is some Platinum special edition or something and that a tougher looking version is in the model mix. I love Ford, I love my ‘13 Raptor and desperately want an F550 EarthRoamer. Was hoping new…
Wow... I’m really NOT liking that front end. Looks very Silverado and has lost the Superduty’s signature grill taller than the heaflughts look. Very disappointed when the F150 started to look more Superduty, this looks like a massive step backwards.
