I never said it wasn’t a christian burial, I merely stated that the practice of burying the dead facing towards the east isn’t a strictly christian tradition and has been in use for thousands of years... But I agree, it is exciting, I can’t wait until they find out more about this person, who he was, how/when he died

Many religions bury their dead facing east, it’s not strictly a christian tradition, like many things, the tradition was stolen or borrowed by christianity from other faiths/religions ... The pagans used to do it, the celts used to do it, as did many others.

This is the sort of discovery that gives an archaeologist a woody.

East-West grave suggests a Christian burial, meaning that he was not likely to be a criminal. The shallow grave suggests it was done quickly, either due to time constraints or number of bodies. My guess would be a battle death.

The thesis... it demands my all.

I did—visited all my brothers and their families. By the way, I like spiders (as long as they don't bite me).

For the Gladius it was a hierarchy issue. I have no fucking clue why the Romans thought it was a good idea, but the legionnaires wore their Gladius on the hand-side, only the centurion was allowed (!) to wear it on the opposite site for effective drawing (as we know it today).

Does Calgary have an SCA chapter? The woman upstairs in the house I used to inhabit got dressed up in armour now and again and bashed other people with her sword in the back yard, but it’s so long agon now that I can’t remember who she was affiliated with.

I found some scuttling around a crumbling wall by the side of a road in Southampton once - I had no idea we had any scorpions at all before then, it freaked me right out.

Yeah, I meant ambidextrous, english is not my mother language, but I didn’t knew ‘dextrous’ was used in english also... And I thought ambivalent sound strange, but anyway...

Wow, I’ve been wanting to get into full contact medieval fighting but a suit of armor is so expensive! Never feel shame! Vikings &the like were the coolest!

No, I’m not archeologist, just a fan of sword fight, and from what I know (I might be wrong) not every sword needs to be fast, chiefly if they are heavy or long, this depends mostly on the foe’s armor, and judging that she fought with both, sword and dagger, at same time I used the definition strong and swift, but

Holy S&*t, Lauren, have you done a PhD in this stuff or what?

Awesome! Since I’m a slightly clumsy person who would never remember to check inside shoes, this is excellent news. :)

I once saw a nature documentary that showed scorpions in England (I forget where—somewhere near water, which doesn’t really narrow it down for an island). It was depressing, because while I enjoy travel and reading travel writing, I become increasingly convinced I already live in the only scorpion-free locale in the

You call that a spider? This is a spider.

They eat mosquito and larves coming out of the water, right? Then it’s a good thing!

Took me a while but that reply was truly a winner! Touché madame!
