Total agreement, Alasdair, everything should be set to Ace of Spades. Well, almost everything. you have to put in the almost just to protect from some random moment where it might not be appropriate but hasn't been thought of yet. But what song could be better at kicking up the adrenaline for any situation?

If we can't go to these places, can we get someone to film a nice Hd documentary, that's long walks through the streets with somene explaining the history? Of better still, the UN could raise some charity fund by allowing travel agencies to set up guided tours. I'd make a side trip on my next European journey for a

I am sure the Planets has been a big inspiration for many film composers. And yes, agreed, Jupiter wins every time. It has everything. And probably the bit that inspired something Star Wars in it. Awesomeness all around, AND visages from The Right Stuff pop into my head for good measure. Sweet. :)

Humans make terrible slaves. We need food, sleep, medical attention, and we wear out pretty easy. The machines would just process us for resources and move on. Evaporator ray set to maximum, Roomba Extreme set to collect resources. repeat seven million times, or as needed. Once done, the machines would have easier

This is a great reason to go listen to Holst's The Planets. Amazing music and so worthy of celebration. If you've never listened to any of these amazing pieces, you are missing a piece of your geek soul! Seriously, they're awesome. :)

Fighting dragons and solving mysteries! Fabulous. I love the Tesco bag. Makes me want to go back to England and do some shopping for value packs of Hula Hoops and Double Deckers. :)

Lego and Game of Thrones seem to go together so well. :)

Walter Bishop Is very much a wizard, dabbling in herbs and potions. That's how I see him. Sure the man is Mad Science but the magic herbs and potions fuel the science. And the candy. he has a cow that's the wizard's familiar, and he goes to oracle like levels of wisdom and riddling.

Oh don't feel guilty. Modern day Scandinavian people are friendly, and enjoy long, slow parties with beer and liquor and many salt cured items served on slices of bread. And all sorts of berry jams. Mmmm. Just don't travel back in time and you'll be fine. :)

Throw in a "hello sailor" and we'll complete the gag :) but on the serious side of it, homosexual insults were seen as really bad, from what I've read and researched. But for a well groomed and well dressed society with some rights for women, it all seems so strange a mix. Must be why I find them so interesting.

Great review, Charlie Jane! It has me excited to dive back in.

It doesn't change what I've been telling the kids when they ask about it. It's just a more science based explanation. Microscopic details don't matter in grade five.

@thebrokedown: did the cube shock you, or did you shock the cube? I suspect it might be the latter. People tend to make good little static batteries. :)

And now the cosmic number in my mind is how many electrons are in any given 3 mm of current over the course of one second.

Fascinating, isn't it? The Vikings carved runes everywhere, almost as a dare. I think I remember reading about cathedrals and mosques that have runes tucked away in them. If the Romans are the fore bearers of Twitter, the Vikings are like, well, trolls on message boards.

Exactly! Funny how Life of Brian showcased ancient social media AND predicted the spelling and grammatical mishaps of modern social media in one scene. Those Python boys were/are brilliant!

It's just one more piece of evidence to show that our modern world isn't all that new. The means of social media might be different, but the same thoughts existed and the need to express views with others is the same as ever. Tomb stone commentary and graffiti wall status updates were twitter and facebook of the day.

I am pleased. Grown up low-fantasy, now with squee worthy baby dragons! It ended exactly how it was supposed to end, right in line with the book, and hey, even for those who have fault with this, just sit back and enjoy the fact that we have great TV going on that meets or needy, geeky genre! Swords! Dragons! Three

SentientMeat has it about right, well as far as we can have it right from reading the books. :)

You're spot on, I suspect. Bran and Rickon will know about the death through the dream before any raven mail reaches Winterfell, and Sansa will have to face her father's head on a spike as Joff continues to earn the title of despicable boy king we all want to slap. It's going to be great stuff.
