Nifty. Rather enjoyed "Lexicon", and pleasantly surprised to learn that I'd read an earlier work by the same author: "Jennifer Government". I'm currently plowing through James S.A. Corey's MASSIVE sci-fi space opera, and "Broken Monsters" is up next.

You publish that sequel, I'll read it. Promise.

To tell a compelling story with heart and guts that has something to say (or at least questions to ask) about who we are in the world right now.

Sounds like you've done the single most important thing: which is FINISH THE DAMN BOOK. I messed around on Moxyland for four years, second-guessing and rewriting the first 30k over and over until the University of Cape Town threatened to throw me out of the MA in Creative Writing programme. I plan on reading Broken Monsters in October/November because it feels like a fall, the sun sets at 5pm kind of book. I have a two-parter.

What was the original inspiration for your story and what was your process for really refining it until it became this book?

Could you explain your inspiration for Gabi and Layla. Thanks in advance, continued success.

I'm currently reading "Broken Monsters" (Bought solely based on the teaser of io9's review, possibly best decision of 2014), and I really love how the ethnicities of different characters are handled. The reader gets a full picture of a real, multi-ethnic city, but without feeling as if anyone's ethnicity in itself was
