But, I think PPD is worse because society is telling you how great it is to be a new parent, and the whole time you are living in a dark hole wondering what is wrong with you that you aren't happy like society says you should be.

Yes same as non-post partum depression, but keep in mind those symptoms also vary widely. A lot of people are sad. Often post-partum has thoughts of harm, or like the other commenter, "gruesome" thoughts that aren't necessarily typical of non-PPD. But I want to mention, for me, the worst days of depression are FULL…

I'm pretty sure she is the example the guy talks about in the book Habits. He talks about exactly that, a woman who's brain is wired differently than a lot of people's and has a legitimate mental ... thing. Not disorder, but a documentable difference.
