Federer looked shaky all week, i really wasn’t sure he had a chance in this one. i didn’t see the match, but heard about the injury - even before this match though there was an element of match (or something else?) fatigue all week. it was particularly apparent during the Ferrer match, which he was lucky to come

you do realize that this ‘historical statue’ is dedicated to the leader of an army that waged war against the United States right? it was placed there as a clear, unambiguous message to people of color.

i was watching Alex Witt yesterday, and she had Howard Dean on her show. she asked him whether Trump was racist or just ‘pandering to the white nationalists and alt-right for their votes.’

holy shit

thanks for posting this.

...nobody cares about international soccer while the best teams in Europe are playing, and it’s a lose-lose-lose outcome.

i *think* Sock is too far along in his career to be match fixing.

i just saw this. FUCK HIM

no, it doesn’t count as much because there are two other surfaces upon which tennis is played. Nadal is the greatest on clay, but that’s a specialty. this is borne out by the fact that by a factor of 2 to 1 his Grand Slam wins are on clay.

i sincerely hope you’re trolling. if so, well done.

ok, i think we need to start addressing the following: while Nadal does own that record against him, which is impressive, 10 of his 15 slams are French Opens. 10. it matters that his total number is so dominated by that one tournament, it really does.

It’s the single best stroke in the history of the sport, the skeleton key to all the various puzzles its wielder faces.

so true. this comes mostly from the fact that his toss never changes - it’s always in the same place, whereas most players adjust their tosses slightly to affect spin/placement.

feel for Sam. i think he played just about as well as he can, but you are absolutely right about Cilic. as a Federer fan he’s a worrisome quantity, all fire and firepower.

well said

we’ll have to agree to disagree here. Stan has not only won 3 slams, but three different slams - which i think matters more. i have a hard time believing Murray will ever win the French Open, setting aside how close he came last year.

couldn’t have said any of this better myself, this is great. i do think we HAVE to loop Stan into the Big 4/5, though... the guy has the same number of slams as Andy Murray.

this is dumb. tennis players, especially at Halep’s level, know to play through the end of a point. she fucked up.

Indeed, JFK required strong medications to perform his tasks as president, including his dealings with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, resolving the Cuban Missile Crisis, and initiating the start of the Vietnam War.

as good as the Federer/Nadal Aussie Open final was, this is my pick for match of the year. completely unbelievable.
