Looks like she might not be the only one

Also? One who feels like he might have to cover his tracks more than once:

What kind of geek keeps 36 year old CALENDARS?

Great! Now Ford is going to force the right wing troll farm to come into work on a SUNDAY to develop a new deflection strategy now that they can’t just say she’s not testifying because she’s obviously lying and doesn’t want to do it under oath? They had plans, damn it!!!!

I know- I get that. I’ve been threatened before too. CPS and law enforcement need to do a better job of protecting people who make reports. But when you’re in a job where you are a legally mandated reporter, you  don’t get to decide how far to go. If you have credible information that abuse has occurred, you risk

As a daughter of an abusive father whose mother also refused to acknowledge it and turned against me.... I spent more time in therapy dealing with my issues with my moms betrayal and abandonment than with my dads. Like you hypothesize here she was also a victim of abuse, but...shouldn’t she have understood more? My

I get it- I’ve made TONS of credible reports in the course of my career and most of them don’t even get investigated. I’ve had parents show up to school to threaten me (because the CPS worker violated the law and told the parent the report came from someone at school). But I’ve also had reports that resulted in

My mom was a teacher. She reported a parent for physical or sexual abuse more than once. We got death threats (phone call was traced back to family members), a rock through her car window while driving, and hate mail.

I read the entire MPR report. It is excellent, well-research, and Laura is completely believable. The abuse she suffered is almost diabolical - her father skirted the legal boundaries, but still satisfied his own base and destructive urges at her expense. Almost like he knew just how far he could go before he ventured

Say nothing, and get excoriated. Say something, and get ignored. We cannot fucking win.

Absolutely! I’m a teacher and a few years ago one of my students told me about an incident of physical abuse by his father. I spoke to the school counselor who said COPS wouldn’t do anything about it because it had been too long since the incident. I told her I disagreed and would be reporting it. The very next day

This is not a USA problem. This is not a GOP problem. This is not a religious problem. It is a human one. The difference between the US and wherever you are from is that here we are TALKING about it.

Meh, don’t kid yourself. I have no doubt it’s bad or worse everywhere, where children and especially girls are not valued as individual human beings.

According to what I’ve read so far, the teacher and at least one police transcript indicated that what happened isn’t legally defined as abuse under state law (and I truly believe he KNEW this), yes? I’ll look these up again since it was late at night, but I got the impression that more than one person did want to

I’m a bit of a local in this scenario, and it is 100% believable that a LEO from the department cited would use incorrect lingo to cover up abuse perpetrated by an “important person” in the hopes that the victim would just go away.

He can deny all he wants, but didn’t a friend of the daughter notice that the father was “unsettlingly touchy” with her? There’s a witness to his creepy behavior.

“Her uncle contacted the local police and county sheriff’s offices, which launched an investigation but closed it after two months, citing insufficient proof...”

Just waiting for him to bring Jesus into this somehow.

I could fight on for another six weeks to defend my reputation while running for re-election. But this would entail subjecting my wife, son, and elderly parents, as well as my daughter, to six weeks of extreme stress and scrutiny. I’m also not willing to spend six weeks fighting with my daughter in the media. As a
