We don't have Uber of Lyft here and I don't have a batshit vendetta with competition. I would actually welcome competition over here because our only option is a taxi, or a $70 train ride home that would have taken two hours, not something you really want to go through after a long flight.

Not only are you warned, but you have to type in the surge amount to confirm you've been warned. So in this case she had to type in "9" in order to get the ride.

I have no idea why this woman is so hated here, but Beyonce is revered as a goddess. And it's not just a talent thing, the articles are spiteful (toward Swift) and asskissing (to beyonce) on a personal level.

hot take: fuck this guy

Fuuuuuck Pittsburgh cabs. Before Uber and Lyft arrived, the only way to get home from an evening out was either to drink and drive or be lucky enough to have a jitney driver's phone number. Uber and Lyft are a god send here.

My husband tried to get one of the cab companies to take him to the Pittsburgh airport from one of the eastern neighbourhoods. Called well in advance, said they were showing up... never did, they hung up on him when he called back to ask WTF? Then it was a mad rush for him to drive to the airport instead and use their

We caught a cab back from the airport and it was $110. Not the greatest end to our honeymoon.. We figured out later it would have been cheaper to hire a car for the day. Fucking taxis..

Customers are super duper warned. You have to press a button saying you accept the surge pricing before you can book, and you can also request a price quote. I mean, barring some kind of weird glitch on this women's smart phone I feel like she a) wasn't paying attention or b) just didn't care and didn't think through

Uber shows up. Try calling a cab on Halloween in a city at 2AM.

In fact not only are you warned in the app, I just remembered that Uber sent out a special "our guide to Halloween" email on the 31st, warning that there would be expected price surging on Halloween night, and explaining how to do things like get a fare estimate, get alerts when surge pricing ends, etc.

Yes. There's a whole screen that warns you how much over the usual fare the surge pricing will be. For example, last time I tried to book during surge pricing, I was told that it would be 1.75x the usual cost. So they don't just say something vague like "it's going to be more, probably."

They are warned. You have to type in the surge amount before it processes your ride. For example, "Your fare will be 3.5x the normal fare." I use it all the time and usually the surges are pretty temporary.

You are warned *twice* that there is a surge in effect, AND you have to type in the amount of the surge (ie: she would have had to type in 9x) as "proof" that you read it.

you're definitely warned. However, if you're drunk you could easily click through the warning too quickly

YES customers ARE warned about surge pricing, how many x more it will be, and you can get a fare estimate at any time before requesting a ride. You can even change settings to be notified when surge ends- it's never over an hour or two. She's a dumbass.

Good old damseling.

It absolutely does. When you click "request uber" it says "hey surge pricing is in effect, it's __ much. Do you accept surge pricing?" and you have to click yes to request it.

But drunk people don't read it so this happens...

I think you need a bigger font. Maybe something in plaid?

You're asking for more spoilers? We didn't already give you ENOUGH?

"Huggable" is the perfect word for that show. I love how the characters all drive each other crazy and still have so much affection for each other.
